Village Band Klezmer Jam

  • The Cedar Cultural Center 416 Cedar Avenue Minneapolis, Minnesota, 55454 United States (map)

The Village Band Klezmer Jam is a celebration of Yiddishkayt and Eastern European Jewish immigrant culture. We’ll learn tunes to sing and play, the accompanying dance steps, and more. Jams are open to all - we welcome all levels and forms of participation. Bring an instrument and a curiosity to learn by ear, your voice, or just come to dance, schmooze, and take part in this living cultural heritage.

We will gather in the lobby of the Cedar Cultural Center, which is an ADA-accessible space.

The Longfellow Village Band is a community music and dance workshop celebrating the expressive heritage of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. Founded in 2020 to offer a secular, inclusive space to learn Klezmer music in Minnesota, workshops offer a space to embrace, learn, and preserve Yiddish culture and build solidarity across historically marginalized cultures. Led by a cohort of teaching artists, the name "Village Band" harkens to old times in Eastern Europe in which working musicians provided a soundtrack and grounding for a community's yearlong cycle of life and public ritual.

The Village Band Klezmer Jams are produced by independent organizers with support from Folk Will Save Us. Jams are free to attend, but donations of $15-20 are welcome. To contribute to klezmer jams, donate here. Help us support thriving immigrant culture in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood by grabbing a meal or a drink before/after the jam!
